The two primary rivers of Assam are the Brahmaputra River and the Barak River. The Brahmaputra river is one of the biggest rivers in the world, covering an area of 5,80,000 sq. km. out of which 1,94,413 sq. km. falls in India. The Brahmaputra Basins in India lies in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Sikkim and West Bengal. It is a perennial river which is fed by snow as well as rains.
The Brahmaputra flows across Assam from east to west for a distance of 640 km up to the Bangladesh border. It has many tributaries on both the right and left bank of the river in Assam. Following are the list of tributaries of Brahmaputra-

The Barak river is the second largest river in Assam as well as in Northeast India. The river has a length of 900 km and covers an area of 52,000 sq. km. in India, traversing a distance of 530 km up to the Indo-Bangla border. Barak is also a perennial river of the state just like the Brahmaputra.
